The Frontier of the Finite
a philosophy of consciousness for everyone
The Frontier of the Finite is a philosophical exploration and critique of our current paradigm, physicalism. This is the idea that matter is the most fundamental aspect of reality. The book is written for everyone, in an accessible way that assumes no prior knowledge of the subject. By using allegorical stories and thought experiments, the philosophical ideas are presented clearly to all.
In a world increasingly defined by mental health struggles, existential anxiety, and disillusionment, The Frontier of the Finite offers a bold exploration of the root cause behind humanity’s pervasive sense of meaninglessness. With over 10 million people in England alone battling anxiety and depression each week, the crisis is undeniable. Despite our attempts to medicate, distract, or escape through consumerism and entertainment, the underlying melancholy persists.
This book argues that the true source of our collective suffering is not merely side effect of technology, social media, or the pressures of modern capitalism. At the heart of the issue lies a profound misconception of existence itself—how we relate to our own consciousness and the world around us. Expect to be taken on a daring journey into these profound existential questions and urged to reconsider how you view death, reality, and the meaning of life.
The reader will be guided through a diverse range of topics to question how they relate to what we perceive reality to be. From the inception of organic life to how we ended up in our current paradigm. What is your intuition of reality? Are we physical things which have, by chance, become conscious of ourselves? Or are we conscious entities that have manifested physically for some reason? This book is an earnest attempt to shed light on this question.

you believe about yourself and reality“
About the author
J. S. Webb
J. S. Webb lives in Brighton, England. After being introduced to Taoism at a young age, he was hooked on philosophy. Webb has been reading philosophy from the East and West for 25 years, completing a BA in philosophy at Sussex University in 2014. Since then, Webb has travelled the world from the Himalayas to the Amazon, all the while researching and working on his first book.
Webb’s main area of interest is the philosophy of mind and metaphysics. He is also a keen bibliophile, hiker, stilt walker, singer and guitarist. Webb argues that physicalism is the main cause of meaninglessness in Western societies.

“I do not intend to convert you to anything or impose my beliefs upon you. Your conclusions are your own; I humbly present the evidence and suggest a logical interpretation for your deliberation. It is a journey of discovery, amazement, and bewilderment, which I share here in the hope that others will enjoy it as much as I have.”

★★★★★
“This is an exceptionally interesting book, I think it is a worthy addition to the philosophy of mind. Covering a wide range of areas including post death experiences and the subjectivity of vision, there is plenty of food for thought here for both the academic philosopher and the interested layman.” Liz Williams PhD– Author of A History of Paganism
★★★★★
In this thoroughly mind-expanding tome, Webb takes the reader on a journey explaining what is life and, indeed, what is the universe and our place within it, introducing a whole array of eminent thinkers from Plato to Planck, Kant, Einstein, and Mandelbrot; theologians, Phi, quantum physicists, sacred geometry, and everyone and everything in between. Webb presents his arguments in such an ordered manner that it transports the reader to a mythical realm of ancient and modern philosophers. This book should be on the reading list for all students of philosophy and for anyone interested in how life has manifested. It’s the ultimate self-help manual written in an accessible style.

This defense of idealism is well-written; it is an important subject, and this is good reference work. It is an enormous tome that is heart-felt and flows well.
